Extreme Makeover: Toddler Room Edition

Well, not really extreme, but it's big enough for us! As you know, we are in the process of redoing our daughter's room into a new big girl room. We are going with a Tinkerbell theme so I've been on the lookout for different things to decorate her room with. For Christmas she got her Tinkerbell comforter set to go with her headboard so I really want to find little things that just brings everything together.

Recently I order these butterflies from a shop off Etsy.com in the colors pink, purple, and green.
They are not very big but I loved the colors and the glitter on them.  We thought about using stencils to paint some butterflies on her wall to go with the theme but then I found these and they were perfect.  I will place these on her wall around her window to make it look like they are flying in from outside.  They were really cheap and will be so much easier and quicker to put on the wall versus using the stencils.

My sister-in-law also gave us a TV stand that she was going to donate to Goodwill, but I told her to give to it to me and I could figure out something to do with it.  I know we didn't need to use it as a TV stand, but I could use it for something else.  It was outlined in pink so I painted the entire stand white and purchased some pink and purple fabric to cover the storage bins.
Now I did use my hot glue gun to attach the fabric and then after I did that I remembered I still had some iron-on letters leftover from another project.  So I thought it would be great to use them to label the storage bins.  Only problem is, hot glue and iron heat do not mix well which I learned before while doing another project.  However, I wasn't even thinking when I did this and of course it messed up my fabric. Uggghhh! It isn't terrible and you can't see them very well but there are lines in the fabric where I glued it and then used the iron.  So trying to save it, I used some sticky circles we had from decorating her nursery to try to cover it up.  No, it didn't work! Lol! But it works for now and Amaya really like it so they will stay unless I find another alternative.  I also placed her movies in the middle section and on the top with her piggy bank I will be adding a lamp and maybe some other decorative pieces.

Speaking of lamp, I recently purchased a lampshade from Salvation Army for only $1.99 with all intentions of using it on my lamp on my vanity.  However, I actually need this lamp to provide good lightening to apply my makeup and this shade just didn't work with what I had in mind for it and didn't provide enough light.  Of course I figured this out after I ripped it apart.  Overachiever! Haha!  Because it didn't work out as planned I had to come up with another way to use it.  Amaya's room! Perfect!  So I went to the Dollar Tree and purchased a poster board to redo the shade since I ripped this one apart and found some glitter there as well.  I'm trying to throw in glitter and sparkly things not only because it's girly but because Tinkerbell carries around her pixie dust and it would look like she sprinkled pixie dust around the room :)!

So this was the creation I came up with and I really like.  I found a white lamp recently at the thrift store to use with the lampshade, but I haven't decided yet if I will leave it white or spray paint it purple, but more than likely it will be purple.  And to prevent the glitter from getting on everything once we place it in her room I sprayed it with some acrylic spray to seal in the glitter.  I also found a really cute purple shag type rug from Ross for only $8.99 a couple weeks ago that I will show you guys once we get everything together which will probably be in the next week or so.  I can't wait to see everything come together!
