Cowash Regimen: Updated

Although I've been natural a while now, I never stop trying new things. Whether it's products, styles, or tweeking my regimen. I have been using the same cowash regimen for a while now and this week I changed it up just a little. My hair was in an old twist out turned flat twisted 'do that was completely DONE! I generally cowash only once a week and it's usually on Sundays because it's like the only day I have the energy and enough time.

Normally I would just jump in the shower and let the water and conditioner do most of the work. But this week I decided to separate my hair into 4 sections and finger detangle before getting in the shower. Lately I have been using the L'oreal extreme conditioner to cowash and condition because it makes my hair really soft and it really thick, which works best for my hair.
So I applied this section by section and finger detangled to get my hair somewhat moisturized and to remove some of the shed hair before getting in the shower. I was expecting this to be a total #fail but it worked really well. It took me about 20-25 minutes to do my entire head and although that's not necessarily "quick" it cut down detangling in the shower a lot and was gentle on my strands!
Once in the shower, I applied a little more conditioner to my scalp section by section to loosen up any dirt and detangled more with my tangle wrangler brush (best thing ever!)!!!
While letting the shower stream help me detangle while using the brush each section only took a couple of minutes to finish. I then tried another new step and applied my grapeseed oil while still in the shower right after rinsing the conditioner from each section rather than after I apply my leave in. I did this to see if it would help retain that moisture from the water better and it indeed left my hair really soft! Here was my hair fresh out of the shower.
I still styled my hair in my usual twists for a twist out. I applied my leave in conditioner and my shea butter mix and allowed that to dry just a little. Then still working section by section (working in sections makes everything easier) I applied this...
And twisted my hair and added my rods to the ends for a twist~n~curl.
I don't always add rods to my ends but I like to most times because it makes them extra curly and helps the style to last a little longer. As usual I let my hair air dry overnight and took my hair down the next morning. Here were my results...

I did not separate my twists this time so this should last a few days without needing to be retwisted. I have to say, my hair is the softest it has been in a long time! I love for my hair to look nice but what's more important to me is how moisturized it is because I struggled with dry hair like my first year being natural.

When it's time for me to retwist later in the week (probably Wednesday) I will just spray it lightly with water and add more of the Curls product and seal it with my shea butter mix. I hope this helps if you are having any issues with dry hair or cowashing :).

    1. Thank you! You can purchase the brush online (I think Amazon sells it), but I was able to find mine locally at a store called Tractor Supply Co. You can visit their website to see if they have a location near you. It's advertised as a brush used for a horses hair, but I haven been using it for over a year and works great on my hair and my daughter's hair. Best of all I think it was only like $5!
