Natural Hair + Summer Time Care
As most of us naturalistas know, the change in seasons can cause big changes in your hair! Summer is right around the corner so here are a few tips for caring for your hair in the hot weather.
- Moisture, moisture, moisture! After being exposed to
the heat and sun, always replenish moisture in your hair by applying a
hydrating leave-in treatment that softens, promotes manageability and
shine, while busting frizz.
- Cleansing! After swimming in any type of water be sure to cleanse your hair thoroughly with a clarifying shampoo. Also before jumping in the pool, try to get your hair soaking wet with tap water and/or apply a light layer of conditioner. The more water you already have in your hair, the less chlorine water your hair will absorb, or just simply use a swim cap.
- Condition! Deep condition more often: Make sure you are using deep conditioners for
your hair to restore proteins to your strands for strength and to
replenish moisture.
- Hydrate! Not only does you hair need to stay hydrated with products but so does your body. Make sure to drink more water as it benefits your body and also your hair from the inside out.
- Protective Styles! If you don't have time or need a break from caring for your hair you can always opt for a protective style...buns, twists, braids, etc. Just be sure to still moisturize your natural hair daily to prevent it from getting too dry.
